Clive Cussler

The life of Clive Cussler (born on July 15, 1931 in Aurora, Illinois) very much parallels that of his hero Dirk Pitt, who’s search for adventure made him find goldmines, whilst showing up at the lakes of the Rockey mountains searching for lost aircrafts.

Clive, together with a crew of volunteers (NUMA®)  also discovered over 60 lost ships of historic significance, amongst which the Housatonic (the first ship ever sunk by a submarine), the Florida and the Alabama, but also the U-20, the famous German submarine which sunk the English passengership Lusitania in 1915.

He also found the Hunley, the long lost confederate submarine that sunk the Housatonic in 1864.

Clive Cussler is the author or coauthor of thirty-two books. This includes Dirk Pitt® adventures, Kurt Austin novels (with Paul Kemprecos) and the new Juan Cabrillo Oregon series novels (with Jack Du Brul). He is also the author of the nonfiction series The Sea Hunters. With his novel Black Wind, he introduces his son Dirk Cussler as coauthor. The first book with Jack Du Brul as co-author is Dark Watch. His latest book, The Chase will be released in November 2007 and introduces a new character Isaac Bell, a detective who has caught thieves and killers coast to coast and the action starts back in 1906.
Clive Cussler collects classic automobiles. He has an impressive collection of over 90 unique oldtimers. You can find pictures from my visit to this museum in October 2005 under the Denver 2005 section of this site.
Clive Cussler spends his time between Denver, Colorado and the deserts of Scottsdale (Paradise Valley), Arizona. That is where he writes his bestsellers.
His books are currently sold in more than 72 countries and translated in over 30 different languages. There are 150 million novels in print.
